Dear Dr. Bhatt & Dr. Patel,
I am pleased to write about my experience with SBCF and the valuable opportunity to pursue a cardiology observership under Dr. Joshi in New Jersey. Like other students I too was searching for rotations in the US amidst pandemic when I came across the SBCF. After months of emailing for observerships I had lost all hope when SBCF came to my rescue. Dr. Bhatt assured me and gave me a ray of hope in the form of an observership under Dr. Joshi.
In my 4 weeks of rotation at Dr. Joshi’s clinic I was exposed to a vastly diverse population from all socioeconomic strata, with cardiac conditions varying in severity. I also had my first experience of interacting with a Spanish speaking population, which taught me the value of non-verbal communication. Dr. Joshi is not only highly knowledgeable but also humble and down to earth, which was valued by his patients immensely. He would not only educate me about the disease but would spend time explaining the patient in a way that they could understand. The one thing that impressed me the most about Dr. Joshi was his thorough approach; he not only attended the cardiac ailment of the patient but paid attention to other comorbidities and would be well informed with the patients’ other providers so that the patients can get an all rounded care.
Dr. Joshi would answer my queries and would clear my doubts and also encourage me to read about literature reviews, latest advancements.
On my last day of rotation he said something which still echoes till this date; “You only fail, when you stop trying”.
I am thankful to Dr. Bhatt and Dr. Patel for providing this opportunity that helped me tremendously in gaining exposure to the U.S. healthcare system.
Specially, I owe gratitude towards Dr. Bhatt , who would frequently check in if I needed help with anything and constantly guide me. Shivani,I hope to make you feel proud, you are truly the guardian angel for all of us. I also applaud SBCF for pursuing this noble deed of helping out students, which is an inspiration for future physicians.
